FINAL INSPECTION

The Policeman stood and faced his God,Which must always come to pass.He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass."Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint. But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God."Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

Big Boo Boo

I consider myself lucky that for four years I have mostly dealt with colds, viral infections, bumps and bruises. I've never had to take Landon to the emergency room and the streak is still alive (knock on wood!) However, it almost came to an end last evening. Landon was playing with his cousins when one of them jumped and landed on his leg/knee. Well, he screamed and cried for quite a while and wouldn't put any weight on it. I was absolultely scared to death. So, I decided that I better get him to the ER just in case something was broken. Better safe than sorry, right? We got to the emergency room and he appeared to be walking much better and so I thought why spend soooo much money for an ER doctor to look at it and basically say there wasn't much to they could do about it. So, we loaded up and headed back home. Several times during the night, Landon woke up and complained that his leg hurt. Then he had trouble walking on it again this morning and it was a bit swollen. So, I called his regular doc and he said to bring him in for x-rays. The x-rays were negative as far as there were no broken bones so the diagnosis is a knee sprain. That, I can handle. Some children's Motrin and ice and no football for a few days - got it doc! I just hate seeing Landon limp around but he is handling it very well. I suppose if there is anyone that can relate to any type of sprain, it is me. I think I just about sprained or injured eveything that a person possibly could (darn cheerleading!!!). I guess I'm lucky I made it 4 years until his first real injury. Let's hope it doesn't happen again anytime soon!

Easter at the Beach

Landon, Gi Gi & I spent Easter with the Britts, Landon's Godparents. It was a beautiful day, but a bit windy. Landon didn't care. He loved walking down the beach with me and Barbie. We must have hidden eggs for him 4 or 5 times. He loved it. And Barbie bought him a 2-person inflatable boat, complete with oars and a life jacket. So, Landon and I can go to their house whenever we wish and take the boat out in the water. It was too windy to try that out yesterday. We would have blown away. But we are looking forward to our maiden voyage in the very near future!

So Shy??

I had my first real parent/teacher conference at Landon's school this week. The teacher said Landon was doing great and was developmentally right where he should be and even advanced in some areas! Of course, I already knew that. It also appears that he might be left-handed. I kinda had a feeling that would be the case. Still too early to really tell I think. What surprised me the most was when she said that he is "so shy". My child...shy?? I guess I have noticed this from time to time but I didn't realize he was that shy. She said he doesn't like to get in front of the class and share stories or sing, etc. I probably should have figured that out from the past couple of Christmas programs. He is so like me in so many ways it amazes me but this most definately is not something he gets from me. (No comments from the peanut gallery, please!) Ok, so this really isn't that bad but it bothers me a bit. I want Landon to play sports and experience many other things that I fear shyness may hinder him from doing. I know he has good friends at school and is very happy there but being shy isn't the best way to meet new people, is it?? So, I'm working on it and hope that at the next parent/teacher conference she says he is not "so shy".
