I'm a Foster Mommy!
I recently became a foster home for a local rescue here in the FWB area called The Rescued Rescuers: Dachsunds and Friends of the Emerald Coast. I have always wanted to try fostering a dog but was so afraid they I would become too attached to ever let go of any dog. But I came across the story of 6 dachsunds in Pensacola who were going to be euthanized in a matter of hours if they were not rescued and I decided I wanted to help. So, I donated money to the rescue to pay for the pull fees for one of the dogs and volunteered to foster one if needed. Well, it turns out that six turned into 11 when one of the dogs had 4 puppies while at the pound and another dog was discovered to be part of the same pack. Only 5 days after I learned about these sweet babies, my foster baby was delivered to my doorstep. She didn't have a name so Landon named her Oreo and you can see why. We call her "Ore" for short. She is affectionately known as our Double Stuffed Oreo since she needs to shed a few pounds. I was apprehensive how my other two dogs would react when she came into our home but I have been pleasantly surprised. They have all bonded and are inseparable now. So, I would like to introduce you to Oreo, my first foster baby. Not sure yet if she will ever actually leave our home...

My heart has ached for a couple of months now and it has taken me that long to be able to make this post. I lost my sweet Mother to cancer on March 20th and my life will never ever be the same. My mother was my world and I loved her so very much. She was the most selfless person I have ever known. I spoke to her every single day and saw her several times a week. Losing her so suddenly has left a hole in my heart that I fear will never heal. I could go on and on about how truly wonderful my mother is but this poem really says it all...
A child preparing to be born asked God,
“They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?”
God answered, “Among the many angels, I chose one for you. She will be waiting for you and will take care of you.”
The child paused and again addressed God. “But tell me, here in Heaven, I don’t do anything else but sing and smile, that’s enough for me to be happy.”
“Your angel will sing for you and also smile for you every day and you will feel your angel’s love and be happy,” God replied.
“Oh,” the child said, “and how am I going to be able to understand the language that men speak?” And then, glancing at God the child asked, “What am I going to do when I want to talk to you?”
God softly touched the child on the head and said, “Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.”
The child then asked, “I have heard that on earth there is evil. Who will protect me?”
“Ah,” God answered, “your angel will defend you even if it means risking her own life.”
“But, I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.”
“Your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way for you to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you.” God said.
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth could already be heard, and the child in a hurry asked softly, “Oh, God, if I am about to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.”
Sweetly, God looked at the child and whispered, “Your angel’s name is of no importance.
You will simply call her MOM.”

Saying Goodbye
I recently said goodbye to my sweet Lily girl, my best friend for the past 11 years. I can't remember a time when I have ever felt such intense pain and hurt. I know it was time to let her go but it felt like a part of me was gone along with her. Anyone who has ever had a pet can likely relate to my grief. Dogs become a part of our families, Lily was my baby, even when she was 11 years old. Lily is the first dog I have ever had on my own. I adopted her from PAWS when she was about 10 weeks old. I can remember when I first saw her, her white chest and sweet golden face. I knew she was going home with me and the love affair began. I was told she would be about 35 pounds full grown. 85 pounds later she was my big, beautiful Lily Girl. She saw me at my best and worst, and loved me etiher way. She was always waiting for me at the door when I came home, tail wagging. She was a constant in my life and no matter what was happening in my life, she could make me feel better. She knew when I was scared, when I needed comfort, and sometimes when I just needed to be left alone. She accepted my son the day I brought him home and protected him and tolerated being his play toy for several years.
I want to thank my wonderful vet, Dr. Whiteside and staff at Wynn Haven Animal Clinic for caring for her for all her years. Dr. Whiteside remembered when he first saw Lily when she was 11 weeks old and weighed 9 pounds. And I especially want to thank him for making her last moments so peaceful and taking good care of her on her next journey. It meant the absolute world to me and to her as well I'm sure.
Thank you for loving me unconditionally and bringing so much joy to my life! The love is truly immeasurable! I miss you so much already, Lily! But I know you are never too far away. Always in my heart!
I'm Still Here
Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
...and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near.
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight-
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach-
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring,
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

Basketball
Landon played his first basketball game and his team won with a basket with only 1 second left to play in the game. It was very entertaining and I know Landon will only get better. He really enjoyed it!. He is on the Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers YMCA Team which makes Mommy very proud. His jersey number... why #1, of course!
